Historic Downtown Mount Airy is the heart of the city, where 100 year old buildings line Main Street and the adjacent streets.  The downtown area is home to well over 100 locally owned businesses, including restaurants, an award-winning winery, unique retail shops, and a wide variety of professional services.  The Museum of Regional History, the Andy Griffith Museum, Surry Arts Council, the amphitheater, and public library are all within walking distance of downtown.

Year round, downtown is buzzing with excitement.  In the fall, the fun begins with Mayberry Days, an annual tribute that unites The Andy Griffith Show lovers from around the globe, for a fun filled week of music, mayhem and memories, all in “Mayberry” of course.  A few weeks later, you can join us for the Autumn Leaves Festival, showcasing Mount Airy’s musical heritage, Old-Time Bluegrass and Gospel performed by local musicians, along with national artists showing off their unique arts & crafts. You can find good southern comfort food, ham biscuits, collards & cornbread, barbeque, hamburgers, pork chop sandwiches, and more, served with a smile by our local civic and other community groups. It's a step back to a time when food and goods were homemade with pride, and families enjoyed them together.

Not long after the Autumn Leaves festival, Goblins and Ghosts storm downtown for the annual Halloween festivities.  Then comes Thanksgiving, quickly followed by Christmas celebrations, visits from Santa, Christmas Carols, and a chance to shop at some of most unique merchants in the area. Celebrate the New Year at one of our restaurants.  Bring your Valentine out for a delicious dining experience, or spoil her with gifts, flowers and spa treatments available from local businesses.  Our downtown is alive with parades, music, car shows, motorcycle shows and rides and premiere wine tasting.  There is always something to do here.
